Nashville Police Arrest Teens in Armed Carjacking on Althrop Way
National Desk
May 4, 2026
A female victim was parking her Toyota sedan outside her home Thursday evening when a masked gunman approached her vehicle, knocked on the window and demanded her keys at gunpoint. Fearing for her safety, she complied and the suspect drove off with the car.
Metro Nashville Police Department helicopters proved instrumental in tracking the stolen vehicle. A police helicopter pilot spotted two males exiting the car on Zermatt Avenue and directed detectives to their location. Officers traced the suspects to a nearby apartment where they apprehended Jabari Thomas, 17, and a second 17-year-old.
Inside the apartment, detectives recovered a nine-millimeter pistol, a ski mask, gloves and the keys to the carjacked vehicle. The stolen Toyota was also recovered during the operation. Thomas was charged in Juvenile Court with carjacking, while his co-suspect faces a joyriding charge in the same court.
The arrests mark another armed carjacking incident in Nashville's ongoing fight against auto theft and violent crime. Police urged residents to remain vigilant when parking vehicles and to report suspicious activity immediately to Metro Nashville Police.
