The 151st running of the Preakness occurred at Laurel Park. Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo did not participate, resulting in a 14-horse field.
Taj Mahal, the top choice at 9-2 odds, took an early lead, covering the first quarter-mile in 22.66 seconds. Napoleon Solo passed Taj Mahal near the top of the stretch. Iron Honor, initially an 8-1 shot after being the 9-2 morning line favorite, challenged late but finished behind Napoleon Solo.
Attendance at Laurel Park was capped at 4,800 spectators.
