Multnomah County Opens Larger WIC Clinic in East Portland

Multnomah County opens a new WIC clinic Wednesday at 427 S.E. 187th Ave., doubling the space of the Gateway facility it replaces.
The clinic serves pregnant people and families with children under five, offering nutrition services, breastfeeding and chestfeeding support, and referrals. The Gateway clinic, though Oregon's largest WIC site, lacked room for group classes and could not accommodate larger families.
"Forty percent of our WIC clients live within one to three miles of this location," WIC Director Sabrina Villemenay said. "This clinic will provide vital services to families in the heart of the community where they live."
The Board of Commissioners approved the lease in June 2025. In 2025, the county's WIC program served 19,058 clients across four sites with 53,429 total visits. By June 30, county WIC clients will have received $8.7 million in healthy foods.
The grand opening runs 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, Public Health Director Kirsten Aird, Commissioner Vince Jones-Dixon, and Commissioner Shannon Singleton speak at 9:10 a.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting at 9:25 a.m. The event includes Mexican traditional dancing, clinic tours, face painting, and community partner tables. Parking is available at the East County Courthouse at 18480 S.E. Stark St.
