MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Day.News) — A wave of gunfire tore through Montgomery over 48 hours from April 10 to 12, leaving four dead and multiple others wounded in seven separate violent incidents. Police Chief James Graboys, visibly furious at a Sunday press conference, labeled the slayings 'senseless,' emphasizing that detectives found no connections between the cases but confirmed victims and suspects knew each other in every homicide.[1][2]
The violence erupted Friday afternoon when 28-year-old Martavious Langford was shot at 12:26 p.m. in the 1000 block of West South Boulevard. Langford succumbed at a hospital, and 30-year-old Adrian Jackson was arrested on a capital murder charge.[1][2] Hours later, early Saturday at 12:47 a.m., a juvenile female was grazed by a bullet in the 2700 block of North Belt Drive. At 2:23 a.m., 35-year-old Andre Smith was killed in the 900 block of Grove Street, where an unidentified woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.[1]
Saturday evening brought two more nonfatal shootings: a man seriously hurt in a domestic incident at 7:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of Rosa L. Parks Avenue, and another man wounded at 10:26 p.m. in the 3400 block of Fountain Circle.[1] The deadly toll climbed past midnight Sunday as 48-year-old Pendarvis Williams was gunned down at 12:01 a.m. in the 1000 block of Day Street Road, followed minutes later by 21-year-old Tori Kelly Jr. at 12:03 a.m. in the 6300 block of Wares Ferry Road.[1][2] Multiple firearms were recovered for testing.[1]
Montgomery's 2026 homicide count now stands at 14, amplifying fears in a city long grappling with gun violence.[1] Graboys implored the public for help, directing tips to CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP or the P3-tips app.[1][2]
