Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru

Staff Writer
April 9, 2026

Hernando residents may have noticed a new phrase circulating, "Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru." This Japanese proverb, meaning "Water flows toward the sea," has been adopted by a new local initiative aimed at fostering community unity and encouraging residents to work together towards common goals.

The Hernando Community Alliance, a newly formed volunteer group, introduced the proverb last week during their inaugural meeting at the Hernando Community Center on Main Street in the heart of historic downtown. According to Sarah Jenkins, a founding member of the Alliance, the phrase embodies their mission to bring various community groups and individuals together, much like all rivers eventually flow into the ocean.

The Alliance plans to host monthly town hall-style meetings, with the first scheduled for April 22nd at 7:00 PM at the Community Center. These meetings are open to all residents and will focus on identifying shared community needs and brainstorming collaborative solutions. "We believe that by working together, our collective efforts, like water flowing to the sea, will lead to significant positive changes for Hernando," Jenkins stated.
