Military Commission Sets Trial Date for Alleged 9/11 Mastermind

A military commission at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has set a trial date for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, accused of orchestrating the September 11, 2001, attacks. Four co-defendants also face trial alongside him.

The trial date announcement follows a decision last summer by a federal appeals court. That court rejected a plea deal that would have allowed Mohammed to avoid a death penalty trial.
