Miami police identify teen killed in Brickell high-rise stabbing
Miami Police homicide detectives have identified the victim as a 16-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed while sleeping inside a luxury Brickell apartment, according to a police statement and media briefings by Miami Police spokesman Officer Michael Vega. The killing happened inside Icon Brickell at 485 Brickell Ave., one of the neighborhood’s best-known condominium towers just east of the Miami River.
Police said the suspect, described as a juvenile, is in custody as detectives continue to piece together what happened. Investigators have said the suspect was not known to the victim and entered the building without a key fob before reaching the apartment unit. Authorities have not released a motive.
According to police, the boy was found with stab wounds inside the apartment after the attack. The incident prompted a police response from the Brickell corridor, where dozens of residents live in high-rise buildings along Brickell Avenue and nearby Southeast First Avenue, and where secure building access is a major daily concern for condo owners and renters.
Detectives are also reviewing surveillance video from the building and surrounding area as part of the case, which remains open. Miami police have not released the juvenile suspect’s name because of age, and additional details will likely come through court filings or future police updates.
The stabbing has shaken residents in one of Miami’s most densely built neighborhoods, where luxury towers sit alongside ongoing construction and heavy foot traffic. For now, police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers or Miami Police homicide detectives.
