MGM Posts Record Q1 Revenue as Las Vegas Tourism Rebounds

National Desk
May 2, 2026
MGM Resorts International, Nevada's gaming giant, posted record consolidated net revenues of $4.5 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to the company's Wednesday earnings report. The 4% year-over-year increase marks the strongest quarterly performance for the Las Vegas-based operator, reflecting sustained demand despite economic headwinds facing the broader hospitality sector nationwide. Las Vegas itself showed signs of sustained momentum in March, when the city welcomed 3.45 million visitors—a 1.9% year-over-year increase—driven by a packed calendar that included the NASCAR Pennzoil 400, college basketball conference tournaments, March Madness, and the return of the CONEXPO tradeshow. The month delivered one of the strongest hotel revenue periods on record, with average daily room rates reaching $207 and revenue per available room hitting $175, the second-highest ever for March. CEO Bill Hornbuckle attributed Las Vegas's performance to solid group and convention bookings, a newly launched all-inclusive promotion, and a significant remodel of guest rooms at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. This marked the first year-over-year increase in quarterly Las Vegas net revenues since the third quarter of 2024, reversing a prolonged slowdown in the region's core market. However, the quarter was not without challenges. While consolidated revenues reached record levels, adjusted EBITDAR—a key profitability measure—dropped 8% from the prior year, indicating pressure on operating margins despite strong top-line growth. The first quarter overall saw Las Vegas close with a less-than-1% increase in year-to-date visitation, reaching 9.74 million visitors. The results underscore Nevada's continued reliance on convention business and high-profile events to drive tourism spending as the state navigates a competitive national landscape for leisure travelers.
