Mets Swept by Rockies in Doubleheader, Extend Losing Streak

The New York Mets lost both games of a doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies, falling 3-1 and 3-0. The sweeps pushed the Mets' season record to 9-19, tying them with the Philadelphia Phillies for the worst record in Major League Baseball. Since June 13 of the previous season, the Mets have compiled a 47-74 record.

The Mets currently hold the lowest run total in Major League Baseball with 92 runs scored and have recorded 20 home runs, one above the league low. Their .625 OPS ranks last in MLB. New York has been shut out five times and has scored one run or fewer in 10 games this season.

The team trails NL East leaders Atlanta by 10.5 games and sits seven games out of the final National League wild-card spot. Their 9-19 start matches the 1962, 1964, and 1983 Mets teams for the second-worst 28-game start in franchise history, behind only the 1981 team's 8-20 record.

Pitcher Kodai Senga's record fell to 0-4 after his third consecutive difficult outing in the second game, where he exited in the third inning. Senga, an All-Star last season with a 2.98 ERA, now holds a 9.00 ERA and has allowed a team-high five home runs across 20 innings. His five-year, $75 million contract includes a clause preventing minor league assignment without his consent.

The Mets anticipate designating outfielder Tommy Pham for assignment; he has gone 0 for 13 in nine games since his April 13 call-up. The team has reportedly agreed to a major league contract with Austin Slater, who posted a .174 batting average in 28 plate appearances for Miami before his designation for assignment. New York began the season with a projected payroll of $358.4 million and a total spend of $482.5 million, second only to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
