Meet Marlene Rose: Clearwater's Newest City Council Member

Clearwater residents will soon have a new face representing them on the City Council. Marlene Rose, a long-time community advocate and local business owner, was officially sworn in yesterday, April 7, 2026, filling the vacancy left by the recent departure of Councilmember Michael Mannino.

Rose, known for her involvement in various local initiatives, expressed her enthusiasm for serving the community in her new role. "I'm honored to have this opportunity to contribute to Clearwater's future," Rose stated during a brief press conference following her swearing-in. "My focus will be on ensuring our city continues to thrive, supporting our local businesses, and addressing the needs of our neighborhoods."

Her appointment comes at a busy time for the City Council, with several key items on the agenda for upcoming meetings. These include discussions around flexible development approvals for a medical clinic at 375 Turner Street in downtown Clearwater and a commercial dock at 125 Island Way, as well as proposed amendments to the city's Future Land Use Map and Zoning Atlas concerning the property at 1399 Pineapple Lane.

Mayor Bruce Rector welcomed Rose to the council, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives in local governance. "Marlene brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our community," said Mayor Rector. "We look forward to her contributions as we work together for the betterment of Clearwater."

Rose is expected to participate in her first official Council Work Session on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM, and her first regular City Council meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Both meetings are open to the public and will be held at the Main Library - Council Chambers in downtown Clearwater.

Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings to meet Councilmember Rose and stay informed about local government decisions. Information on meeting agendas and how to participate can be found on the city's official website.
