Mariners: Seek Safe Harbor Immediately - Special Marine Warning Issued

Mariners operating in North Mobile Bay, South Mobile Bay, Mississippi Sound, and coastal waters from Pensacola, FL to Pascagoula, MS out to 20 nautical miles are advised to move to safe harbor immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a Special Marine Warning due to strong thunderstorms. This warning is effective until 11:00 PM CDT tonight, September 21.

At 9:34 PM CDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 12 nautical miles north of Pascagoula to Dog River Bridge, moving south at 35 knots. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts of 34 knots (approximately 39 mph) or greater. Small craft could experience damage from briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Areas expected to be impacted include Gaillard Island, East Fowl River Bridge, Sand Island Lighthouse, Bon Secour Bay, Middle Bay Light, Mississippi Sound East Of Pascagoula, Heron Bay, Point Clear, Weeks Bay, and Central Dauphin Island. Ensure all vessels are secured, and those on the water should seek protected areas without delay.
