Margate House Fire: What We Know So Far
A child died in a Margate house fire that sent a large emergency response to the residence, and officials say the blaze started in the back of the home. This is what we know so far.
According to CBS News Miami, firefighters found the back of the house engulfed in flames when they arrived, and the fire heavily damaged the home. Officials were still assessing whether the residence could be salvaged or was a total loss.
CBS News Miami also reported that one child died in the fire, based on information from local reporting and the family. Police and fire officials had not released additional details about other injuries at the time of reporting.
Florida Power & Light said the fire knocked out power to 13 nearby homes. Utility crews were working in the area as emergency responders continued their investigation.
Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. They had not publicly released further details about what sparked the blaze.
Dispatch records show prior incidents at this address on June 1 and May 28, though those records do not include additional context on the nature of those calls.
