Malone lost a cherished community member with the passing of Emma Mae Newton Thomas, who died on July 30, 2026, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. She was 81 years old.

Mrs. Thomas was a lifelong resident of Malone, known for her deep faith, dedication to her family, and love for gardening. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, particularly within the Snowhill A.M.E Church community where she was a devoted member from an early age.

Born in Donalsonville, Georgia, on July 8, 1945, Emma Mae Newton Thomas was the daughter of Meck Newton Sr. and Nellie B. Newton. She spent her life cultivating strong family bonds and contributing to the fabric of Malone.

Mrs. Thomas confessed Christ at an early age and joined Snowhill A.M.E Church, where her faith remained a cornerstone of her life. Her commitment to her church and community was evident throughout her years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers: Tyler Lee Collins, Andrew Mack Collins, Mathis Curtis Newton, Curtis Newton, and Peter Newton.
