Madison Officer Fatally Shoots Man After Knife Incident

MADISON, Wis. — A Madison police officer fatally shot a man early Saturday morning after an incident in which the officer reported being injured by a knife. The shooting occurred on the city's east side, near the intersection of Baldwin and Williamson Streets.

Police officials identified the deceased as 33-year-old Quadren L. Wilson. Authorities stated the officer involved, who has not been identified, was responding to a report of a man with a knife.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation has initiated an investigation into the shooting, consistent with state protocols for officer-involved critical incidents. Governor Tony Evers issued a statement calling for transparency in the investigation. "We must ensure a thorough and impartial investigation," Evers said.

Following the shooting, protesters gathered in Madison. Some individuals marched through downtown streets, while others demonstrated near the scene of the incident. These gatherings remained largely peaceful, though police did issue citations for disorderly conduct to some participants.

A previously scheduled community listening session concerning Madison police operations was postponed due to the events. City officials stated they would reschedule the session at a later date.
