Local Students Sharpen Skills at Resume Workshop

Students learn resume essentials in hands-on workshop

Crystal River High School students gained valuable insights into crafting effective resumes yesterday during a hands-on workshop designed to prepare them for future employment opportunities. The event, held at the Crystal River Community Center along the scenic Crystal River, drew a strong turnout of eager young job seekers.

Organized by the Crystal River Career Development Office, the workshop focused on practical skills, guiding students through the process of highlighting their strengths, experiences, and educational achievements. Local business leaders and educators volunteered their time to provide one-on-one feedback and advice, ensuring each student left with a more polished and professional document.

"It's crucial for our students to understand the importance of a well-structured resume, even before they step into their first job interview," said Sarah Jenkins, Director of the Crystal River Career Development Office. "This workshop provided them with the tools and confidence to present themselves effectively to potential employers, whether they're applying for a summer job, an internship, or preparing for college applications."

Participants learned about different resume formats, how to write compelling objective statements, and the best ways to articulate their skills and volunteer experiences. Several students brought existing drafts, which were reviewed by the volunteer mentors, offering personalized suggestions for improvement.

"I thought I knew how to make a resume, but this really opened my eyes," commented Maria Rodriguez, a junior at Crystal River High. "The tips on action verbs and tailoring my resume for different jobs were really helpful. Now I feel much more prepared."

The Crystal River Career Development Office plans to host similar workshops throughout the year, addressing various aspects of career readiness, including interview skills and networking.
