Local Chiropractor Offers Relief for Plantar Fasciitis in Ocala

Ocala residents suffering from the common and often debilitating foot condition, plantar fasciitis, are finding relief through chiropractic care and simple at-home stretches. Dr. Emily Carter of Ocala Family Chiropractic, located on SW 17th Street, emphasizes that while the pain can be severe, effective solutions are often within reach.

Plantar fasciitis, characterized by sharp heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning, affects many in our community, including equestrian enthusiasts and active locals. Dr. Carter explains that the condition involves inflammation of the thick band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes.

"Many of my patients come in after struggling for months, sometimes years, with heel pain that impacts their daily lives, from walking the aisles at Publix to enjoying a stroll through Sholom Park," Dr. Carter stated during a recent community health talk at the Ocala Public Library. "The good news is that chiropractic adjustments can help address the biomechanical imbalances in the foot and ankle that contribute to plantar fasciitis, often providing significant relief."

In addition to in-office treatments, Dr. Carter recommends three simple stretches that Ocala residents can perform daily to alleviate symptoms and aid recovery:

  1. Calf Stretch: Stand facing a wall, place hands on the wall. Step one foot back, keeping the heel on the ground and the knee straight. Lean forward until you feel a stretch in your calf. Hold for 30 seconds, repeat 3 times per leg.
  2. Plantar Fascia Stretch: Sit down and cross the affected foot over the opposite knee. Grab your toes and pull them back towards your shin until you feel a stretch in the arch of your foot. Hold for 30 seconds, repeat 3 times.
  3. Towel Stretch: Sit on the floor with legs extended. Loop a towel around the ball of your affected foot. Gently pull the towel towards you, keeping your knee straight, until you feel a stretch in your calf and arch. Hold for 30 seconds, repeat 3 times.

Dr. Carter advises consistency with these stretches and encourages anyone experiencing persistent heel pain to consult with a healthcare professional. "Early intervention can prevent the condition from becoming chronic," she added. Ocala Family Chiropractic is currently accepting new patients and can be reached at their office during business hours for appointments.
