Liberty Bolster Roster with Sabally, Re-sign Core Trio

The New York Liberty secured their core talent and added a significant new piece ahead of the 2026 WNBA season. The team re-signed their 'big three' of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones. Stewart and Ionescu both received supermax contracts. Jones also signed a multi-year deal with the team.

In a notable acquisition, the Liberty signed three-time All-Star forward Satou Sabally to a two-year, $1,670,750 contract, including $815,000 for the 2026 season and $855,750 for 2027. Sabally previously played for the Phoenix Mercury. GM Johnathan Kolb confirmed Sabally's decision to join New York stemmed from the franchise's established championship culture.

Further reinforcing the roster, the Liberty re-signed Betnijah Laney-Hamilton to a one-year, $400,000 contract. Laney-Hamilton missed the entire 2025 season due to injury. The team also brought back Rebecca Allen on a one-year deal and Rebekah Gardner on an official contract. Han Xu received a training camp contract.

New York's coaching staff also saw changes. The organization parted ways with head coach Sandy Brondello. Chris Demarco, a former Golden State Warriors assistant, was hired as the new head coach. He is joined by assistant coaches Courtney Paris, Addi Walters, Will Sheehey, Andrew Wade (also Director of Player Development), and player development coach Kristen Mann. Training camp contracts were also extended to Rachel Carrera, Pauline Astier, and Marine Fauthoux.
