Lexington's Legacy Business Park Signals Growth Amid Expansion

Mayor Linda Gorton announced at Wednesday's groundbreaking that the Legacy Business Park will bring substantial economic benefits to Fayette County. The project is projected to produce approximately $6.8 million in local tax revenue and $4.1 million in state tax revenue annually, according to city officials. The 200-acre park, located northwest of the Coldstream Research Campus off Georgetown Road near Interstates 64 and 75, includes 19 lots totaling 147 acres designated for development, with additional greenspaces and trails connecting to the city's Legacy Trail system. The development required a $22.6 million investment from federal, state and city sources, with Lexington contributing $2.55 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding and $7.45 million in capital funds. The groundbreaking represents a significant expansion of Lexington's commercial real estate footprint. The park joins other recent downtown development initiatives, including the Government Center development featuring an eight-story office building and a 286-space parking garage, signaling sustained investor confidence in the region's growth trajectory. City planners expect the project to be completed by the end of 2026, with work proceeding in phases to accommodate existing infrastructure and business operations. The partnership between Lexington government and the University of Kentucky underscores regional commitment to attracting new industry and retaining talent in central Kentucky.
