Lauderhill Canal Rescue: What We Know So Far

A woman was pulled from a car in a Lauderhill canal and taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to NBC Miami.

Police said she was extricated by officers and fire rescue and was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest when rescued, according to NBC Miami. Authorities said a passerby reported the vehicle in the canal at about 4:32 a.m., and police said the driver was the sole occupant of the car.

Officials said the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and police said there are conflicting accounts about whether it was a single-vehicle crash or a hit-and-run, according to NBC Miami. A traffic homicide investigator was reportedly on the way to continue the probe.

The response included police and fire rescue, with divers confirming there was only one person in the vehicle, according to NBC Miami. The presence of a traffic homicide investigator indicates the case is being treated as a serious crash investigation rather than a routine rescue.

Dispatch records show 11 similar cardiac-arrest incidents in Lauderhill over the past six months.

Officials have not identified any suspect, and no fatalities, evacuations or road closures were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and police said additional details are expected as detectives and crash investigators review what happened.
