Lauderhill Canal Crash: What We Know So Far
A woman was pulled from a car in a Lauderhill canal early Tuesday and was reported to be unresponsive and in cardiac arrest, according to NBC Miami and Lauderhill police.
Authorities said the vehicle was found in a canal near Northwest 56th Avenue and Northwest 20th Street, not at the originally reported address, and police and fire rescue extricated the woman before transporting her to Florida Medical Center in critical condition, according to NBC Miami.
Lauderhill police said divers checked the vehicle and confirmed the driver was the only person inside. Police also said the cause of the crash has not been determined and that there are conflicting accounts over whether this was a single-vehicle crash or a hit-and-run.
The response involved police, fire rescue and divers, and a traffic homicide investigator was on the way to continue the investigation, according to police. No road closures or traffic impacts were reported in the available coverage.
Dispatch records show 19 similar cardiac arrest incidents in Lauderhill over the past six months.
What happens next is an active crash investigation by Lauderhill police, with updates expected as investigators determine how the vehicle entered the canal and whether another vehicle was involved.
