Lauderhill Canal Crash: What We Know So Far
A woman was pulled from a car in a Lauderhill canal and was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest, according to NBC Miami.
Lauderhill police said she was taken to Florida Medical Center in critical condition. Police also said divers searched the vehicle and confirmed the driver was the sole occupant.
Authorities said they responded after a passerby reported a vehicle in the canal. Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and that there are conflicting accounts about whether it was a single-vehicle crash or a hit-and-run. A traffic homicide investigator was en route to continue the case, according to police.
The response included police divers, which indicates investigators were checking the vehicle for any additional occupants and working to determine how the car entered the water, according to NBC Miami.
Dispatch records show 19 similar cardiac arrest incidents have been reported in Lauderhill over the past six months.
What happens next will depend on the traffic homicide investigation and any further updates from Lauderhill police on the woman’s condition, the crash sequence and whether another vehicle was involved.
