Lauderhill Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
A Lauderhill apartment fire left a 91-year-old woman dead after crews found her trapped inside the unit where the blaze started, according to WSVN and Local 10. Here is what we know so far.
According to WSVN, firefighters found the woman inside the apartment and took her to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. Officials later said she died at the hospital and identified her as Adeline Morant, 91.
Local 10 reported that fire officials said the fire was contained to the single unit where it began and that no other injuries were reported. Authorities also said everyone else in the apartment complex was able to get out except Morant, who lived in the unit where the fire started.
Officials said the cause of the fire remained under investigation, and the State Fire Marshal was investigating, according to WSVN and Local 10.
Dispatch records show prior incidents at this address, including structure fires on May 15 and a medical emergency on May 9.
The response involved Lauderhill fire units already dispatched to the Cypress Grove Apartment Homes area, and the active investigation suggests officials were still working to determine how the fire began and whether additional safety issues were involved.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
