Lauderhill Apartment Blaze: What We Know So Far
A structure fire was reported late Thursday at an apartment building in Lauderhill, and the closest confirmed reporting so far points to a separate nearby fire along Northwest 43rd Terrace that displaced residents and sent one baby to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
According to the available reports, no coverage matches the exact address of 2074 NW 43 Terrace Apt. 3, but the similar apartment fire in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace left two families displaced and caused major smoke and water damage that made the units uninhabitable.
Officials said eight to 12 people were affected in that nearby fire, and a Red Cross representative said, “We’ve got eight people, we’ve got four adults and four kids,” as crews worked to help displaced residents.
The cause of that fire remained under investigation, according to the reports.
Another Lauderhill apartment-building fire covered in local news was being investigated as possible arson after crews found hallway flames and furniture that had been set ablaze, according to Lauderhill Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Levy.
In that case, officials said the blaze appeared to have been set on purpose, the Florida State Fire Marshal was investigating, and dozens of families were displaced while the fourth floor remained uninhabitable.
Dispatch records show this address has had prior incidents, including a structure fire on June 11 and two fall-injury calls on June 1.
In similar recent Lauderhill apartment and triplex fires, one incident was later traced to a stand-alone freezer, while another April apartment fire killed 91-year-old Adeline Morant and remained under State Fire Marshal review.
Fire officials have not released a confirmed cause for the June 12 incident, and no road closures or traffic impacts were reported in the available coverage.
What comes next will likely be an updated fire investigation, plus any confirmation from Lauderhill fire officials on whether the incident involved injuries, displacements or a possible cause.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
