From I-90, take the slower route south toward the Root River Valley, where the roads curve past farms, bluffs, and enough old barns to make your phone’s camera roll look suspiciously intentional.

Park in the free public lots near the Root River Trail and downtown. You can leave the car there all weekend; Lanesboro is compact, flat enough for wandering, and built for the sort of strolling that eventually leads to pie. Check the schedule before you go, because catching an evening performance turns a simple bike weekend into an actual getaway.

Stay in a small inn or guesthouse within walking distance of downtown, and book early for fall weekends. If you are keeping costs down, go midweek or arrive Sunday through Thursday. Pack binoculars, a rain jacket, and a willingness to be delighted by a town whose main attractions are a river, a trail, and pie. Honestly, that is a pretty strong résumé.
