Lakeland Residents Encouraged to Apply for REEP Credit
Lakeland residents are reminded to apply for the Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP) credit, a local initiative designed to help homeowners reduce their energy costs. The program, managed by the Lakeland Department of Public Works, offers financial incentives for improvements that enhance a home's energy efficiency.
The REEP credit aims to alleviate the burden of rising utility costs by encouraging upgrades such as improved insulation, energy-efficient windows, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. "We want to make it easier for our neighbors to invest in their homes and, in turn, save money on their monthly bills," stated Martha Jenkins, Director of Public Works. "This program is a win-win for both residents and our community's overall energy conservation efforts."
Eligibility for the REEP credit is open to all owner-occupied residential properties within Lakeland city limits, including historic neighborhoods like Dixieland. Applicants must submit proof of purchase and installation for qualifying energy-efficient upgrades. The credit amount varies depending on the type and scope of the improvements, with a maximum cap set per household per calendar year.
Residents interested in learning more about the REEP credit, including a detailed list of eligible improvements and application forms, can visit the Lakeland Department of Public Works office at 123 Main Street in downtown Lakeland during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Information is also available on the city's official website. The deadline for submitting applications for improvements made in the current fiscal year is June 30, 2026.
This program represents a tangible effort by the city to support its residents in creating more sustainable and affordable living environments. Community leaders hope for widespread participation, emphasizing the long-term benefits for individual households and the broader Lakeland community.
