Glimpse Into Our Past
Lakeland residents are invited to take a step back in time with the Lakeland Historical Society's upcoming exhibit, "Echoes of Lakeland: A Century of Change." The exhibit, opening next Monday, April 22, at the Lakeland History Museum on Main Street in the heart of downtown Lakeland, will showcase photographs, artifacts, and personal stories detailing the city's evolution from its early days through the mid-20th century.
Highlights of the collection include early farming tools used by pioneer families in Polk County's agricultural heartland, original blueprints of the historic Lakeland City Hall, and a fascinating display of vintage clothing and household items. The Historical Society has also curated a series of oral history recordings featuring long-time Lakeland residents sharing their memories of growing up in the community.
"This exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for both new and long-time residents to connect with Lakeland's rich heritage," said Martha Jenkins, President of the Lakeland Historical Society. "We believe understanding our past helps us appreciate our present and shape our future."
The Lakeland History Museum is located at 123 Main Street, across from the old post office. Admission to the exhibit is free for all Lakeland residents. The museum will be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Special guided tours will be available on Saturdays at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
