King High School Custodian Arrested After Bringing Gun on Campus
National Desk
May 8, 2026

A custodian at King High School in Tampa was taken into custody by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office after authorities discovered he had brought a firearm onto school property, according to law enforcement records. Michael Difabio, 58, resigned from his position at the school following the arrest.
Difabio had worked as a custodian at King High School since January 2023, according to employment records. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the firearm and the specific charges filed against him were not immediately detailed in available law enforcement statements.
The incident adds to a series of security concerns at King High School in recent years. In November 2024, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested two juveniles—Kevin Reese, 16, and Arthur Thompson, 14—after a teacher witnessed one student passing a loaded, stolen firearm to another on campus. Both teens faced charges including minor in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
Additionally, in September 2024, two juveniles were arrested in connection with electronic threats of violence made against King High School and a teacher. Le'Ondre Wesley Thompson, 14, and Javaris Johnson, 13, were accused of sending threatening text messages to a school employee.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has not released additional details about Difabio's case as of this report. Residents seeking more information can contact the sheriff's office public affairs division for updates on the investigation.
