Key West Fishing Report for March 9, 2026

Staff Writer
April 16, 2026

Key West anglers enjoyed a productive day on the water on March 9, 2026, with reports of strong catches across various fishing grounds. Offshore, captains noted good numbers of mahi-mahi and wahoo, particularly around the deeper wrecks and along the edge of the Gulf Stream. Several charter boats, including the Lucky Charm out of Safe Harbor Marina, reported limits of dolphin for their clients.

Nearshore, the patch reefs and channels yielded a steady bite for yellowtail snapper and cero mackerel. Local fisherman, Captain Joe 'The Hook' Rodriguez, a lifelong Conch who operates out of Garrison Bight, shared that live pilchards were the bait of choice for the snapper, while spoons proved effective for the mackerel.

In the backcountry, permit and bonefish were active on the flats, providing a challenge for fly fishermen. Guides working the waters near the Marquesas Keys observed several successful sight-fishing expeditions. The calm weather conditions on March 9 contributed to the favorable fishing environment, making it a memorable day for many local Conchs and visiting anglers.
