Key West Fishing Report: March 16, 2026

Key West anglers in the Conch Republic are reporting a strong start to the week, with favorable conditions contributing to good catches across various fishing grounds. Offshore, captains are finding success with mahi-mahi and wahoo, particularly in the deeper waters beyond the reef. Several charter boats, including the Lucky Charm out of Charter Boat Row in the Historic Seaport, reported multiple mahi hookups yesterday, with some fish weighing in the 15-20 pound range.

Nearshore, the Spanish mackerel bite remains consistent around the artificial reefs and along the channel edges. Live bait, especially pilchards, has been the most effective. Bottom fishing enthusiasts are still pulling up snapper and grouper in their usual haunts, though some captains note a need to move around more to find the larger schools. In the backcountry, bonefish and permit are providing a challenge for fly fishermen on the flats, with the clearer water offering good visibility for sight fishing.

The weather forecast for the remainder of the week looks promising, with light winds and calm seas expected, which should continue to provide excellent opportunities for both recreational and commercial fishermen.
