Citrus County Judicial Elections Guide 2024

Citrus County Voters Guide: How Judicial Elections and Merit Retention Work

Citrus County voters can learn how judicial elections work through "The Vote's in Your Court," a nonpartisan guide from The Florida Bar.

The guide explains the role of judges, how judicial elections operate, and Florida's merit retention process. The Florida Bar distributes printed copies in English, Spanish, and Creole through the Supervisor of Elections offices. Online information is available at TheVotesInYourCourt.com.

Florida law requires Supreme Court justices and appeals court judges to appear on the ballot every six years in nonpartisan elections. Voters decide whether judges should serve another six-year term.

Candidates for county court judge positions file with their county Supervisor of Elections. All other judicial candidates file with the Florida Division of Elections.

The Florida Bar allows judicial candidates running for county and circuit court seats to submit voluntary self-disclosure statements, which let candidates share background information directly with voters.

The qualifying period for judicial offices is approaching. For 2026 elections, updated information on District Court of Appeals judges and Florida Supreme Court justices became available in April 2026.
