Passerine
Jacksonville residents are invited to a unique birdwatching event this Saturday, April 19, at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. The event, titled "Passerine," will focus on identifying and observing various passerine bird species that frequent the arboretum's diverse habitats along the St. Johns River.
Organized by the Jacksonville Birding Club in partnership with the Arboretum, the morning walk will be led by local ornithologist Dr. Eleanor Vance, a long-time resident of the San Marco neighborhood and an expert on Florida's avian population. Participants will learn about the distinct calls, plumage, and behaviors of birds like the Northern Cardinal, Carolina Wren, and Tufted Titmouse.
The event begins promptly at 8:00 AM at the main entrance of the Arboretum, located at 1445 Millcoe Road. Attendees are encouraged to bring binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and a water bottle. While the event is free, donations to support the Arboretum's conservation efforts are welcome. This is a great opportunity for both seasoned birders and curious newcomers to connect with nature right here in Jacksonville.
