Jackrabbits Claim Fourth Straight Summit Title in Sioux Falls
No. 2 seed South Dakota State pulled away late from No. 1 North Dakota State to secure a 64-51 victory in the Women's Basketball Championship Sunday before a crowd of 7,930 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. The win marks the Jackrabbits' fourth consecutive tournament title and their 14th NCAA tournament appearance since 2009, improving their record to 13-2 in Summit League title games.
Senior Brooklyn Meyer earned Championship MVP honors after finishing with a game-high 24 points to go with nine rebounds and four blocks. Meyer, who shot an impressive .655 from the field this season—fourth in the nation—led the Jackrabbits alongside fellow senior Madison Mathiowetz, who had contributed 23 points in Saturday's 74-59 semifinal victory over South Dakota.
The Jackrabbits entered the championship game riding a nine-game winning streak, including a 59-44 victory over North Dakota State in Fargo on February 25. SDSU's dominant tournament performance capped a 27-6 regular season and extended a winning culture that has made South Dakota State the Summit League's most formidable women's basketball program. The team's .488 field goal percentage ranked seventh nationally, providing the foundation for their championship run.
With the Summit League title secured, South Dakota State advances to the NCAA tournament for the 14th consecutive year, continuing one of college basketball's most consistent postseason streaks.
