Israeli strikes in Gaza kill six; Al Jazeera cameraman among dead
An Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed six people, including two children and Samer Abudaqa, a cameraman for Al Jazeera, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
The strike occurred during a period following an October ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Since the agreement took effect, Gaza's Health Ministry reports over 1,000 Palestinian deaths from Israeli military operations.
The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the specific strike. The military has previously described its operations in Gaza as targeting Hamas infrastructure and personnel.
Abudaqa worked for Al Jazeera's Arabic service. The network confirmed his death and said he was covering events in Gaza at the time of the strike.
The Health Ministry figures reflect deaths recorded by Gazan health authorities. International organizations have not independently verified the casualty count.
The ceasefire agreement, reached in October, established terms for reducing military operations. Israel and Hamas have disputed compliance with those terms, with each side accusing the other of violations.
Gaza's Health Ministry maintains a public record of deaths it attributes to Israeli military operations. The ministry does not distinguish between combatant and civilian deaths in its overall count.
