May 18, 2026
Why it matters locally: Isaiah Thomas, who had a memorable run with the Celtics from 2015 to 2017, will rejoin the organization as a scout. His presence is expected to contribute to the team's player evaluation and recruitment efforts.
Isaiah Thomas has been hired by the Boston Celtics as a pro and college scout. Thomas, who last played in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns in 2024, will be based in his hometown of Seattle. Brad Stevens, President of Basketball Operations, added Thomas to the team's regional scouting staff, which includes Derek Pierce in Atlanta and Keandre Ashley in Dallas. Benas Matkevicius leads the Celtics' international scouting operation. Thomas attended this week’s NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago with team executives. The Celtics currently hold the No. 27 and No. 40 picks in the upcoming draft. Thomas played with the Celtics from 2015 to 2017. During the 2016-17 season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists, finishing fifth in MVP voting.
