ICE Temporarily Halts Vehicle Stops Following Two Fatal Shootings

Washington D.C. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has temporarily suspended vehicle stops nationwide. The agency initiated this suspension following two separate incidents in which newly recruited ICE agents were involved in fatal shootings.

The first incident occurred on April 13 in Arundel, Maine. An ICE agent, newly assigned to the agency, shot and killed 43-year-old Bryan Grenier. Authorities did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The second incident took place on April 21 in Miami, Florida. Another newly recruited ICE agent shot and killed 33-year-old Orlando Lopez, a U.S. citizen. Officials have not provided further information regarding the events leading to this shooting.

Following these events, ICE issued an internal directive. The directive instructed agents to temporarily halt vehicle stops, according to sources familiar with the order. The agency did not announce a specific end date for the suspension of these operations.

The temporary halt in vehicle stops affects routine enforcement activities. ICE did not indicate whether the policy change impacts other forms of enforcement or investigations. Agency officials have not yet commented publicly on the duration of the suspension or the ongoing investigations into both shootings.
