Houston Dynamo Signs 15-Year-Old Rosharon Prodigy as Youngest Ever

National Desk
May 4, 2026
HOUSTON — Houston Dynamo FC announced on Feb. 21, 2026, the signing of Dynamo Academy product Matthew Arana to a first-team Homegrown Player contract through the 2027-28 season, with club options through 2029-30.[2] At 15 years, five months and 24 days old, the Rosharon native became the youngest first-team signee in club history and the 20th Academy product to earn such a deal.[1][2][3] Arana joined the academy at age 11 in 2021, progressed to Dynamo 2 — the club's MLS NEXT Pro affiliate — where he recorded one assist in five 2025 appearances, and debuted for Dynamo 2 at 14 years, 10 months and 28 days, the second-youngest ever.[2][4] Arana wasted no time with the first team, entering in the final minutes of Dynamo's home opener against LA Galaxy a week before the March 12 report at Shell Energy Stadium.[3] He was one of seven Academy players called up by head coach Ben Olsen for preseason, impressing enough to secure the contract under President of Soccer Pat Onstad, who has signed eight Academy players since taking charge in February 2022.[2][3] "He made the most of his opportunities since joining the Dynamo Academy in 2021, advancing quickly through our pathway," the club stated.[4] The signing highlights Texas' surging youth soccer scene, with Dynamo prioritizing local talent from Rosharon, Humble and Missouri City. Recent moves include Homegrown deals for Humble goalkeeper Logan Erb (18th Academy product) and Missouri City defender Reese Miller (19th) in December 2025, plus Cy-Fair forward Mattheo Dimareli's MLS NEXT Pro contract through June 2027, transitioning to first team in July.[5][6] Arana remains with Dynamo 2 while training with the seniors, fueling optimism for Houston's MLS ambitions.[1]
