Hollywood High-Rise Fire: What We Know So Far
A high-rise apartment fire in Hollywood sent at least two people to the hospital and prompted a third-alarm response, according to CBS Miami. This is what we know so far.
Hollywood Fire Rescue said it responded to a fire at the Edgewater Beach Towers at about 5:28 p.m. and was able to extinguish the flames, containing them to a single penthouse unit, according to the department. The resident of the affected apartment was evaluated and cleared at the scene, officials said.
Hollywood Fire Rescue said an elderly woman was taken to a nearby hospital for further care. One Hollywood firefighter and one Hollywood police officer were also transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the department.
Officials said residents from the 11th floor and below were allowed to return to their homes after the fire was brought under control. The cause remains under investigation, according to Hollywood Fire Rescue.
The response level indicates a major fire with additional crews called in to help secure the building, control the blaze and assist with evacuations and medical checks. CBS Miami’s report and the fire department’s statements both identify the incident as a high-rise apartment fire at 2001 Van Buren St in Hollywood.
Dispatch records show 376 similar structure fire incidents in Hollywood over the past six months, underscoring how frequently local crews are called to building fire emergencies.
What happens next will depend on the ongoing investigation by Hollywood Fire Rescue, which has not released a cause, arson determination or suspect information. Additional official updates are expected as investigators continue their work.
