Hollywood Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at a two-story apartment building in Hollywood left one woman dead and two others hospitalized, according to NBC Miami. This is what we know so far.
Officials said the fire broke out at 415 South Ocean Drive, not 411 South Ocean Drive, as first reported in dispatch information, according to NBC Miami. Hollywood police said the woman did not survive. Two other people, including a juvenile, were injured and hospitalized after the fire.
An adult male was found outside the building asking for help when responders arrived, according to the reporting. Hollywood officials said fire rescue extinguished the flames and removed two occupants — an adult female and a juvenile — from the building. Officials said all three injured people were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, and the juvenile and adult were taken to the Miami Burn Center because of the severity of their injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to NBC Miami and Hollywood authorities. No suspect or arrest information has been reported.
The response drew fire rescue crews to the scene in a structure fire, indicating a significant emergency response to a working building fire. Dispatch records show 353 similar structure fire incidents in Hollywood in the past six months.
Because the investigation is ongoing, officials are still sorting out how the fire started and whether more details will be released later today. Additional updates are expected from Hollywood police and fire rescue as the scene is processed and investigators review the damage.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
