Hollywood Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far

A fire at an apartment building in Hollywood injured one firefighter and prompted an American Red Cross response, according to news reports and officials. Here is what we know so far.

Officials said the fire started in an air-conditioning unit and spread into the apartment and building, according to WSVN, CBS Miami, Local 10 and Hollywood Fire Rescue. Hollywood Fire Rescue said crews found an active fire coming from an AC unit on the second floor at the rear of the building, and a spokesperson said, "The fire extended into the apartment but was quickly extinguished."

No civilian injuries were reported in the coverage of the apartment fire, but one firefighter was hospitalized for observation after suffering injuries unrelated to the fire, according to the reports. An American Red Cross response was also mentioned to assist the resident of the affected unit.

Emergency crews responded to the 2700 block of Johnson Street in Hollywood, not the 5220 Johnson St address listed in the original dispatch, according to the reporting. The incident was described as a fire in an apartment building, with the blaze contained after it spread beyond the AC unit.

Hollywood Fire Rescue said the cause remained under investigation, and Local 10 reported the State Fire Marshal was still working to determine the official cause.
