Hollywood Apartment Fire Leaves Woman Dead, Child and Man Burned
A fire at a two-story apartment building in Hollywood left a woman dead and sent a child and an adult man to the hospital for burn treatment, according to officials. That is what we know so far.
Hollywood police said the woman did not survive the fire, which broke out at 415 South Ocean Drive and drew first responders around 3 a.m., according to NBC Miami and CBS News Miami.
Officials said the child and adult male were taken for treatment because of the severity of their injuries, and the child had to be resuscitated after being pulled from an apartment window, according to reporting from NBC Miami and CBS News Miami. The adult male was believed to be the child’s father.
Hollywood Fire Rescue found fire on the first floor and an injured man outside asking for help, according to the city’s communications manager. Fire rescue extinguished the blaze and brought out two occupants — an adult female and a juvenile — before all three patients were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, the city said.
The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, and the investigation remains open in the available reporting.
The response involved Hollywood Fire Rescue and Hollywood police, and the severity of the injuries indicates a major emergency with rescue, suppression and hospital transport all underway at the scene.
Dispatch records show 353 similar structure fires in Hollywood over the past six months, underscoring how frequently the city’s fire units are called to building fires.
What happens next will depend on the findings from the ongoing investigation and any additional updates from police, fire officials or hospital sources.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
