Heat Eye Norman Powell Amidst Antetokounmpo Trade Speculation
The Miami Heat are considering retaining Norman Powell in free agency, a move that could impact their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. ESPN's Bobby Marks identified the Heat as the "best fit" for Powell. Marks projected a three-year, $65 million contract for Powell, including a team option for the final season.
Marks noted that re-signing Powell to a contract with a $20 million starting salary would allow Miami enough financial flexibility to pursue Antetokounmpo and still utilize part of their $15 million non-tax mid-level exception to build team depth. Last season, Powell averaged 17.5 points after the All-Star break, after averaging career-high 21.7 points. He previously averaged 24.2 points before the All-Star break while playing for the Los Angeles Clippers.
