Heat Advisory Issued for San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Foothills Until Wednesday
A Heat Advisory has been issued by NWS Hanford CA for the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills, effective until Wednesday, October 7th at 11:00 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 102 degrees, posing a risk of heat-related illnesses.
Residents across the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills must prepare for extreme heat. The National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford CA has issued a Heat Advisory, effective immediately from 1:43 AM PDT on October 5th until 11:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 7th.
High temperatures are expected to reach up to 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight lows in the Sierra Foothills, particularly where the thermal belt is strongest, will remain elevated between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This prolonged heat poses a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those without effective cooling or hydration.
Affected areas include a wide swath of the region, specifically: West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors during this period of extreme heat.
