Huslia, Tok, and Tetlin Head Start Programs Celebrate Graduates as School Year Concludes

Four communities across the region celebrated the conclusion of another Head Start school year, with graduation ceremonies honoring young learners. Huslia, Tok, and Tetlin programs marked the transition for their three- to five-year-old students.

The Huslia Head Start program graduated 10 students, while the Tok program saw 11 three- to five-year-olds complete their year. Tetlin Head Start celebrated one graduate. These ceremonies across the four communities recognized the young students as they prepared for their next educational steps.

Staff from Northway and Huslia Head Start programs collaborated with families on a special project for the graduates. They worked together to sew dresses and vests for the children. Tribal Social Services (TSS) partnered with Head Start, providing the materials for this regalia making. Many community members in both Northway and Huslia contributed their time and effort to help with the sewing.

In other program news, Tanya Yatlin, a Head Start Family Advocate, earned her Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) in Rural Human Services in May 2026. Yatlin, a Huslia Tribal member residing in Fairbanks, has worked with the program since 2014 and with TCC for 22 years. Her roles included Family Visitor in Huslia, Data Entry Technician, and Family Advocate since 2024. Yatlin continues her education, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development & Family Studies.
