Glaukos Breaks Ground on $82M Tech Campus in Huntsville, AL
National Desk
April 21, 2026
Construction kicked off in Cummings Research Park at the corner of Mark Smith Drive and Explorer Boulevard on a 25-acre site, where Glaukos Corporation—a leader in ophthalmology innovation—will build its new research, development and manufacturing campus. The event drew Mayor Tommy Battle, community leaders and industry executives, underscoring Huntsville's status as a hub for advanced manufacturing and tech. The city-backed economic development agreement supports the multi-million-dollar investment, positioning the facility to drive growth in North Alabama's booming aerospace and medical sectors.[2][3][4]
The $82 million project is projected to create 154 full-time jobs by 2030, focusing on high-skill roles in research and production of next-generation medical devices. Glaukos, known for its breakthroughs in glaucoma treatments, selected Huntsville for its proximity to defense giants like Aerojet Rocketdyne and a skilled workforce from nearby Redstone Arsenal. This follows Aerojet Rocketdyne's own groundbreaking on Oct. 24 in North Huntsville Industrial Park for an advanced manufacturing facility, signaling a wave of tech expansion.[1][3]
Huntsville, often called the Rocket City for its NASA ties, continues to attract national firms with incentives and infrastructure. The Glaukos campus aligns with broader efforts to diversify beyond aerospace into biotech and medtech, enhancing Alabama's competitiveness. Local leaders expect the park's growth to ripple through Madison County, spurring housing, education and supplier networks.[3][4]
