Gale Watch Issued for Maine Coastal Waters: Mariners Urged to Prepare

Mariners operating in the coastal waters from Eastport to Stonington, Maine, are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions as a Gale Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Caribou, ME.

The Gale Watch is effective from Friday afternoon, September 25th, and remains in effect until Sunday evening, September 27th.

Forecasters anticipate northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots (23-35 mph) with gusts reaching up to 45 knots (52 mph). Seas are expected to build significantly, reaching 7 to 12 feet. These conditions can capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility, posing a serious threat to safety.

The affected areas include the coastal waters from Eastport, ME, to Schoodic Point, ME, out 25 nautical miles, and the coastal waters from Schoodic Point, ME, to Stonington, ME, out 25 nautical miles.

The NWS strongly advises all mariners to consider altering their plans to avoid these potentially dangerous conditions. Instructions include remaining in port, seeking safe harbor, altering course, and/or securing vessels for severe wind and seas. Your safety is paramount.
