Gale Watch Issued for Delaware Bay: Mariners Advised to Seek Safe Harbor

Mariners operating in the Delaware Bay waters south of East Point, NJ to Slaughter Beach, DE, are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, NJ, has issued a Gale Watch effective from 6 AM EDT Friday, September 25, until 6 PM EDT Saturday, September 26.

A Small Craft Advisory is currently in effect until 6 AM EDT Friday, September 25, with northeast winds of 20 to 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots, creating rough waters. Following this, the Gale Watch anticipates north winds of 20 to 35 knots with gusts up to 40 knots, leading to very rough waters.

These strong winds and very rough seas pose a significant risk, potentially capsizing or damaging vessels and reducing visibility. The NWS advises all mariners to consider altering plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. It is strongly recommended to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure vessels for severe wind and seas.
