Gale Watch for Delaware Bay: Mariners Advised to Seek Safe Harbor

Mariners operating in the Delaware Bay waters north of East Point NJ to Slaughter Beach DE are advised to alter plans and seek safe harbor due to a Gale Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mount Holly NJ. This Gale Watch is effective from 6:00 AM EDT Friday, September 25, through Saturday afternoon, September 26.

During this period, north winds are forecast to be 20 to 30 knots, with gusts reaching up to 35 knots, leading to very rough waters. These strong winds and hazardous seas pose a risk of capsizing or damaging vessels and can reduce visibility.

A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for the same area until 6:00 AM EDT Friday, September 25, with northeast winds 15 to 25 knots and rough waters. The NWS advises all mariners to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for severe wind and seas.
