Gale Warning Issued for Waters Southwest of Saint Lawrence Island

A Gale Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Fairbanks AK for the waters southwest of Saint Lawrence Island, extending from 15 to 100 nautical miles offshore. This warning is currently in effect and will remain until Friday, September 25, 2026, at 5:00 AM AKDT.

Mariners and those with interests in the Northwestern Alaska Coastal Waters out to 100 NM are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions. Today, Thursday, September 24, 2026, expect East winds at 45 knots with seas reaching 17 feet. Tonight, East winds of 40 knots and 17-foot seas are forecast, accompanied by rain showers.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve. On Friday, East winds will decrease to 25 knots with seas of 13 feet. Friday night brings Northeast winds at 25 knots and 9-foot seas. By Saturday, North winds of 20 knots and 7-foot seas are anticipated, further subsiding to 6-foot seas Saturday night. Sunday will see Northwest winds at 20 knots and 5-foot seas, with Monday expecting North winds of 15 knots and 7-foot seas.
