Gale Warning Issued for Coastal Waters: High Winds and Seas Expected

A Gale Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Juneau, AK, effective immediately until Wednesday, September 23 at 5:00 PM AKDT. This warning impacts the Southeast Alaska Coastal Waters from Dixon Entrance to Cape Suckling, extending out 100 nautical miles, specifically from Cape Spencer to Cape Fairweather between 15 and 85 nautical miles.

Mariners and residents in the affected coastal areas should anticipate strong winds and high seas. East winds of 35 knots are expected tonight, with seas reaching 15 feet. On Wednesday, winds will shift to southeast at 25 knots in the afternoon, and seas will be around 12 feet. Showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms are also in the forecast for tonight and Wednesday.

During a Gale Warning, mariners are advised to remain in port or secure their vessels. High winds and dangerous sea conditions can make navigation hazardous. Residents along the coast should also be aware of the potential for rough waters and strong gusts.
