Gale Warning Issued for Coastal Waters: Cape Spencer to Cape Fairweather

Mariners and residents in the coastal waters from Cape Spencer to Cape Fairweather, specifically 15 to 85 nautical miles offshore, should prepare for dangerous conditions as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Juneau, AK, has issued a Gale Warning. This warning is effective immediately, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 3:17 PM AKDT and remains in effect until Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 5:00 PM AKDT.

During this period, predominant winds are forecast to be east at 25 knots, increasing to 35 knots this evening. Seas are expected to reach 13 feet. On Wednesday, winds will maintain 35 knots from the east before shifting to southeast at 25 knots in the afternoon, with seas around 12 feet. Showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms are also in the forecast.

The NWS advises caution for all marine activities within the affected area. Mariners should secure vessels and avoid unnecessary travel if possible during the warning period. Wind forecasts reflect the predominant speed and direction expected, and seas forecasts represent the average of the highest one-third of the combined windwave and swell height.
